New Delhi, June 24: The race for the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has become increasingly thrilling. On Tuesday, both New Zealand and Sri Lanka secured victories, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the final four.
New Zealand showcased an impressive performance, defeating Scotland by six wickets. Batting first, Scotland managed to score 131 runs, losing seven wickets in their 20 overs. However, the Kiwi team chased down the target of 132 runs in just 18.2 overs, losing only four wickets in the process. Izzy Sharp played a remarkable innings, scoring 62 runs off 43 balls, including eight fours and one six. Brooke Halliday also contributed significantly, remaining unbeaten with 41 runs off 38 balls. With this win, New Zealand now has four points from four matches, placing them third in Group B.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka dominated their match against Ireland, winning by nine wickets. Ireland batted first and scored 130 runs, losing five wickets. Sri Lanka, led by captain Chamari Athapaththu, chased down the target with ease, reaching 131 runs in just 15.3 overs, thanks to Athapaththu’s outstanding unbeaten score of 106 runs off 61 balls. Sri Lanka also has four points from four matches, currently sitting fourth in Group B. England remains at the top of the table with six points from three matches, while West Indies also has six points but is placed second due to a better net run rate.
On the other hand, Australia continues to dominate Group A. They secured a significant victory against Pakistan, winning by 113 runs. With four wins from four matches, Australia leads Group A with eight points. India is in second place with four points from three matches, while South Africa also has four points but trails India on net run rate. Bangladesh holds the fourth position with four points. Pakistan, Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland have already been eliminated from the semi-final race.
