
New Delhi, April 10: Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Harivansh Narayan Singh has been reappointed as a member of the Rajya Sabha. This time, his selection comes not from the party but through a nomination by the President of India. Previously, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and has been actively involved in parliamentary affairs.
With his current term nearing its end, there were various speculations about his political future. However, the President’s decision to reappoint him has clarified that his parliamentary role will continue. He is among the select individuals nominated to the Rajya Sabha for their significant contributions to society, literature, journalism, or public life.
It is noteworthy that the President has the authority to nominate 12 members to the Rajya Sabha, chosen based on their exceptional contributions. Harivansh Narayan Singh has a long-standing association with journalism and has established a strong grasp of social and political issues.

Harivansh Narayan Singh’s term as Deputy Chairman and senior leader of the Janata Dal (United) was set to end on April 9. Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan mentioned on Wednesday that former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, and Deputy Chairman Harivansh, among 59 members from 25 states, were completing their terms.
Born on June 30, 1956, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, Harivansh began his primary education at a local school in Tola Kashi Rai. After completing high school at JP Inter College in 1971, he moved to Varanasi. He pursued intermediate studies at UP College and graduated from Banaras Hindu University, earning a diploma in journalism. He started his career with the Times Group.
