New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding their recent political strategies. He expressed that the BJP has failed to campaign on a development agenda and is instead resorting to issues that divide society.
Commenting on West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh’s remarks about madrasas, Rawat stated, “It seems the BJP has accepted that it cannot contest elections on development. Therefore, it wants to raise non-issues that exacerbate divisions in society. If this is your declared objective while in power, so be it, but we believe certain matters should be left to the communities to manage their religious affairs.”
Regarding BJP President Nitin Naveen’s call for people to light ‘Diya of Blessings’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Rawat responded positively. “We also wish for the Prime Minister’s good health. As Prime Minister, he is connected to national issues, and we hope he addresses them. Celebrating achievements in public life is important, and PM Modi is indeed a significant personality. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with his party celebrating his birthday.”
On the controversy surrounding the Indian women’s cricket team and their decision not to accept the Asia Cup trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, Rawat supported the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He remarked, “Yes, it is India’s policy that sports and violence cannot coexist. If you support terrorism here, how can we play with you? This undermines the spirit of the game. Therefore, BCCI’s stance is commendable, and they deserve praise.”
Rawat also commented on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s past support for the BJP in various states, including Gujarat and Haryana. He noted that if the votes garnered through Kejriwal’s backing had gone to Congress, the election outcomes might have been different.
