Chandigarh: Gurmeet Ram Rahim, head of Dera Sacha Sauda, has once again been granted parole. The Haryana government has approved a 40-day parole for Ram Rahim from the district jail in Sunaria, Rohtak. He is serving sentences related to the rape of two female followers and the murder of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati.
According to reports, Ram Rahim had previously received a 40-day parole on 15 September 2025. With this latest parole, he will be out of jail for the 15th time. During his earlier paroles of 21 and 40 days, he stayed at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa. It is expected that he will remain at the same location during this parole period as well.
The special CBI court had sentenced Gurmeet Ram Rahim to 10 years imprisonment for each of the two rape cases, totaling 20 years. Additionally, he is serving sentences for the murders of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati and the Dera manager Ranjit Singh. His repeated paroles have often sparked controversy.
Ramchandra Chhatrapati’s son, Anshul Chhatrapati, has previously questioned the parole granted to Ram Rahim, stating that he is not an ordinary prisoner but a hardened criminal who should not receive such privileges. However, the Haryana government has denied this claim in the High Court, submitting an affidavit stating that Ram Rahim is a well-behaved prisoner. The government added that parole or furlough is granted according to jail rules, which allow a maximum of 90 days parole per year for a convict.
