New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women‘s cricket team has made history by securing the Asia Cup title for the eighth time. In a decisive final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, triumphed over Sri Lanka by 72 runs.
This victory is seen as a significant milestone, demonstrating the team’s dominance and ability to compete at the highest level. Mithun Manhas, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with former cricketer and Chief of the Centre of Excellence, VVS Laxman, congratulated the team on their championship win.
Throughout the tournament, the Indian team remained unbeaten, reclaiming their title after a previous loss to Sri Lanka in the 2024 Asia Cup final. Manhas praised the collective effort of the team, highlighting the unity that propelled them to victory. He expressed his admiration on social media, stating, “Together we move forward. The final match showcased a stellar performance from the team, particularly with a record opening partnership of 129 runs between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, which set the stage for a total score of 183/5. The bowlers then effectively dismantled Sri Lanka’s batting lineup, restricting them to just 111 runs.
Charni’s exceptional bowling figures of 4 wickets for 20 runs, along with Deepti Sharma’s three wickets, were pivotal in securing the victory. Laxman viewed this win not merely as an achievement but as an important step in the journey toward establishing India as a formidable presence in international cricket.
