Gulshan Devaiah: The Living Encyclopedia of Bollywood

Mumbai, May 27: In the vibrant world of Bollywood and OTT, many artists emerge, but few truly understand their characters and bring them to life. One such actor is Gulshan Devaiah, often referred to by his co-stars and directors as a “living encyclopedia.” His deep understanding of scripts, dialogues, and scene nuances is evident in his performances.

Born on May 28, 1978, in Bengaluru, Gulshan’s cinematic journey has been anything but ordinary. His early life was steeped in art and creativity. He studied fashion design at NFT and worked in the fashion industry for nearly a decade. During this time, he not only focused on design but also taught fashion education. However, his passion for acting led him to join English theatre in Bengaluru, where he began his acting career. In those early days, he managed backstage work and lighting, gaining a profound understanding of the stage.

Gulshan made his Bollywood debut in 2010 with Anurag Kashyap’s film “That Girl in Yellow Boots.” However, it was his role as Karan Chaudhary “KC” in the 2011 film “Shaitan” that brought him widespread recognition. His performance was highly praised, earning him a nomination for the Filmfare Best Debut award.

Following this, Gulshan consistently took on diverse roles. In “Hate Story” (2012), he portrayed a character with gray and negative shades, capturing the audience’s attention. His role as Bhavani in “Ram-Leela” (2013) was crucial to the story, and his screen presence was lauded. In “Hunter” (2015), he played Mandar Ponkshe in a bold comedy-drama, leaving a distinct mark with his acting.

Among his notable films is “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” (2018), where he showcased his versatility by playing a double role. His portrayal of two vastly different characters, Karate Mani and Jimmy, amazed audiences. Similarly, in “Badhaai Do” (2022), his small yet impactful role strengthened the narrative. His character, SHO Devilaal Singh, in the OTT series “Dahaad” (2023) was serious and well-received by both viewers and critics.

Gulshan has also carved a niche for himself in the world of web series. He has played various roles in series like “Afsoos,” “Duranga,” “Guns & Gulaabs,” and “Bad Cop,” demonstrating his adaptability across genres.
