Srinagar, June 24: The renowned tourist destination Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir will see the resumption of its Gondola service starting June 25. After being closed for nearly a month, this reopening is expected to bring significant relief to both tourists and the local community reliant on tourism.
The Gondola service was halted on May 25 due to a technical malfunction. This issue left over 300 tourists stranded mid-air, prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving the cable car corporation, police, and SDRF teams, who successfully evacuated all tourists.
The suspension of the Gondola service adversely affected Gulmarg’s tourism industry, impacting the income of local guides, horse operators, photographers, hoteliers, and others associated with tourism.
Following the rescue, efforts were initiated to address the technical issues. According to officials, technical experts have resolved the malfunction, and after thorough checks of all safety protocols, the service has been cleared to restart. They assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of tourists.
The resumption of the Gondola service is anticipated to boost tourism activities in Gulmarg and provide a fresh impetus to the local economy.
The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the highest and longest cable car systems in the world, featuring a total of 108 cabins, each capable of seating six people. Every summer, a large number of tourists flock to this destination to enjoy breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks while utilizing the Gondola service.
