
Rajkot, April 26: In preparation for the local body elections, Rajkot police have implemented extensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and fair voting process.
DCP Jagdish Bangarwa from the Crime Branch provided updates on Saturday, indicating that police officials, including the Commissioner of Police (CP), Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), and four DCPs along with ACP-level officers, are continuously monitoring the situation to prevent any disruptions during the election process.
To maintain law and order during the elections, a total of 958 police personnel, 165 LRD members, and 1,371 Home Guards have been deployed, alongside GRD and SRPF forces.
The police have also taken strict action against illegal activities during the code of conduct period. So far, over ₹7 million worth of English and local liquor has been seized. Additionally, 173 individuals have been charged for gambling-related offenses.
To further enhance security in the city, eight check posts have been established at various locations for ongoing vehicle inspections. Regular foot patrols are being conducted in sensitive and highly sensitive areas to reassure the public of their safety.
The DCP also mentioned that, if necessary, the Special Operations Group (SOG) will use drones for surveillance. Furthermore, the cyber team is closely monitoring social media platforms to swiftly address any rumors or misleading information. The police have stated that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful and transparent election.
