Gujarat Ensures Adequate Fuel Supply Amid Middle East Tensions

Gandhinagar, March 24: Amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Mona Khandhar, the Principal Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, has urged the public not to worry about the supply of LPG and fuel. She assured that the government has made sufficient arrangements. There is an ample stock of petrol and diesel in the state.

In a media interaction on Tuesday, Khandhar stated that the central government has ensured a steady supply of petrol and diesel in Gujarat. “We have a significant buffer stock available. There are no restrictions on the distribution of petrol and diesel. From day one, there has been no question of a shortage,” she emphasized. She kindly requested citizens to disregard any rumors regarding fuel supply.

Khandhar expressed satisfaction with the current status of petrol and diesel. However, she mentioned plans to increase the stock of commercial LPG, particularly in areas lacking a PNG network. Priority regions, where 75% of commercial LPG has been allocated, will continue to receive their supplies. Each district has a key industrial area, primarily MSMEs, providing substantial employment opportunities. They will receive 10% of commercial LPG.

This progress is attributed to increased allocations from the central government and significant advancements in the PNG network, supported by the Energy and Petrochemicals Department.

Following directives from the central government and a recent meeting with oil marketing companies, a decision was made to enhance LPG availability. In areas without a PNG network, allocations for restaurants, hotels, corporate canteens, industrial canteens, corporate guest houses, and the food processing sector will increase from 10% to 25%.

Additionally, over 1,200 commercial and more than 350,000 domestic PNG connections are set to be converted in Ahmedabad over the next three months. Furthermore, 900 societies will be connected to the PNG network, with similar initiatives planned for other cities.
