New Delhi, March 30: Rajasthan Royals (RR) has given fast bowler Brijesh Sharma the opportunity to debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the third match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
This right-arm bowler from Bengal was acquired by Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2026 auction for a base price of 3 million rupees. Born on January 16, 1988, in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, Brijesh sought better opportunities in Bengal, where he participated in the Bengal Pro T20 League. In this league, he took 11 wickets in 7 matches and was among the top 10 run-scorers of the tournament.
Brijesh previously played for the Jammu state team but was later dropped. He spent two years honing his cricketing skills at the Unique Sports Club in Delhi under the guidance of Deepak Puniya, where he learned the importance of discipline.
From a young age, Brijesh was more interested in sports than academics. He often faced reprimands for skipping school, but his singular focus on cricket was understood and supported by his family, especially his father.
Kapur Chand Sharma, Brijesh’s father, is a laborer who struggled financially but ensured that all his son’s needs were met. During tough times, he provided emotional support, fully believing in his son’s potential. Finally, on Monday, Brijesh got his chance to debut in the IPL. His next goal will undoubtedly be to secure a place in the Indian cricket team.
On Monday, Rajasthan Royals won the toss at the Barsapara Cricket Ground and opted to bat. The toss was delayed by five minutes due to light rain on the field.
This match marks the first encounter between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings after the teams swapped their captains, Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja. Riyan Parag is set to begin his innings as the full-time captain following Samson.
