Grand Vikramotsav Celebrates Emperor Vikramaditya in Ujjain

Ujjain, February 15: A month-long celebration, the ‘Vikramotsav’ dedicated to Emperor Vikramaditya, is set to commence this Sunday in the religious city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, and will conclude on March 19.

Prior to the event, the Madhya Pradesh government released a detailed program following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. This mega event will feature various religious, cultural, and commercial activities.

The festivities will kick off with all-night Shivratri fairs, a Kalash Yatra, and a musical presentation titled ‘Shivoham’ by a renowned group of artists. The Vikram Theatre Festival will showcase national and international theatrical performances from February 16 to 25.

From February 26 to 28, an international history conference, a puppet festival, and a research seminar will take place. An intellectual conference focusing on justice during Emperor Vikramaditya’s era is scheduled from February 28 to March 1, followed by an all-India poets’ conference on March 7.

According to the program, the mega event will also include an international festival of mythological films featuring entries from over 20 countries, a Vedic Antakshari, and a sunrise prayer at Ram Ghat and Datt Akhada on the occasion of Gudi Padwa.

On March 19, Ujjain will celebrate Ujjayini Gaurav Day in honor of the year Pratipada and the beginning of creation.

The MP government stated, “The main events will be held along the banks of the Shipra River, including the distribution of the Vikramaditya Award, the launch of the Vikram Panchang 2082-83, and the second edition of Arsha Bharat, along with the dance-drama ‘Mahadev Ki Nadi Katha’.”

While reviewing the preparations, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized the need for a comprehensive and impactful presentation of all aspects of Emperor Vikramaditya’s personality during the Vikramotsav.

He also highlighted the importance of introducing the younger generation to Emperor Vikramaditya’s contributions to maintain the continuity of Indian knowledge systems and cultural traditions.

Additionally, Chief Minister Yadav directed that science colleges, engineering colleges, and polytechnic institutions be engaged in programs showcasing the scientific aspects of Emperor Vikramaditya.
