GoPro Launches MISSION 1 Series Action Cameras with 8K Video and 240fps Slow Motion

Mumbai, April 15: GoPro has unveiled its latest line of compact cinema cameras, the MISSION 1 Series. This new lineup features three models: MISSION 1 PRO, MISSION 1, and MISSION 1 PRO ILS. Each camera is equipped with a cutting-edge 50MP 1-inch sensor and the advanced GP3 processor, emphasizing high-resolution video, enhanced low-light performance, and extended recording durations.

The innovative sensor utilizes 1.6µm native pixels and 3.2µm fused pixels in Quad Bayer mode, offering up to 14 stops of dynamic range. The GP3 processor, designed on a 5nm architecture, aims to enhance efficiency and heat management while optimizing image processing. It also incorporates an AI-driven neural unit to improve low-light video quality and detail rendering.

Video capabilities stand out as a key feature. Both the MISSION 1 PRO and PRO ILS can record 8K video at 60 frames per second, 4K at 240 frames per second, and 1080p at an impressive 960 frames per second in short bursts. Additionally, they support 1080p at 480 frames per second for extended slow-motion footage. The standard MISSION 1 model is slightly more limited, offering 8K30, 4K120, and 1080p240 recording options.

Open Gate recording is available across the series. The PRO models can capture 8K30 and 4K120 using the entire 4:3 sensor, while the base model supports 4K120 Open Gate, providing greater flexibility for cropping in various formats later.

Battery life has also seen significant improvements. With the Enduro 2 battery, these cameras can record over five hours at 1080p30 and more than three hours at 4K30. This battery is also compatible with HERO13 Black cameras, though older batteries may not provide the same longevity.

The cameras come equipped with 13 preset capture modes that automatically adjust settings based on the scene. Manual controls are available for users who prefer them. Video recording supports a bitrate of up to 240Mbps, along with 10-bit color, HLG HDR, and GP-Log2. Timecode sync is included for multi-camera setups.

In terms of audio, the cameras feature a four-microphone array with stereo recording and wind noise reduction capabilities. They also support 32-bit float recording to prevent clipping, and Bluetooth 5.3 enables wireless audio connections with compatible devices.

For photography, the cameras can capture 50MP images, including RAW format. Burst shooting capabilities reach up to 60 frames per second, with automatic HDR processing.

Design-wise, both the MISSION 1 and PRO models are waterproof up to 20 meters without additional housing, and a separate case can extend this to 60 meters. They feature a 159-degree field of view, a larger OLED rear display, and larger buttons for easier use with gloves.

The MISSION 1 PRO ILS is particularly notable for its interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens mount, allowing users to utilize various lenses through adapters. The cameras are also compatible with the GoPro Quik app, which facilitates cloud backup, automatic highlight video creation, and editing tools.

Pre-orders for the MISSION 1 Series will commence on May 21, with global availability starting May 28. The PRO and base models will be shipped first, while other versions are expected to follow in Q3 2026. Pricing details will be revealed at the NAB Show later this month.
