Mumbai, March 7: The Indian Football League (IFL) match between Gokulam Kerala FC and Namdhari Sports Academy ended in a 1-1 draw at Payyanad Stadium on Saturday. The home team took the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal from Thebiso Nelson Brown. However, in the 73rd minute, Seilenthang Lotjem equalized for Namdhari. This result marked the second consecutive draw for both teams this season.
Gokulam Kerala’s head coach, Derrick Pereira, made two changes to his starting lineup, bringing in Thebiso Nelson Brown and Aman CK to replace Rahul Raju and John Kennedy Javier Da Costa in the attack. Namdhari’s coach, Harpreet Singh, also made adjustments, giving Neeraj Kumar a chance to score in place of Nishan Singh, while Karan Kumar Sharma took Balakaran Singh’s position in defense.
The host team started strong, dominating possession in the first 20 minutes. Captain Francisco Perdomo Borges showcased excellent midfield play, helping the Malabarians gain an early advantage. Meanwhile, Namdhari displayed defensive strength but failed to capitalize on their opportunities in the final third.
Gokulam’s persistent pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when Borges provided a brilliant assist to Brown, who finished skillfully to give the home team a solid lead. Following the goal, Namdhari responded with increased urgency in the closing minutes of the first half but went into the break trailing.
After halftime, the tide turned as Namdhari effectively utilized their wings to strengthen their attack. Harpreet Singh made a strategic substitution, bringing on Senegalese forward Abdoulaye Diallo to add pace to the offense.
Namdhari’s efforts bore fruit in the 73rd minute when Diallo played a crucial role, assisting Seilenthang Lotjem, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to level the score at 1-1.
In search of a winner, Derrick Pereira made a substitution in the 85th minute, bringing on Rishad for Mirjalol Kasimov. With six minutes of extra time added, both teams applied pressure in each other’s penalty areas. However, despite the intense action from start to finish, neither team could find the decisive goal, and the match concluded in a draw.
