New Delhi, March 18: Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin has been appointed as the new head coach of the New South Wales men’s cricket team. He will succeed former coach Greg Shepherd, whose contract expired a year ago.
In a statement to New South Wales Cricket, Haddin expressed his excitement: “New South Wales cricket has been a significant part of my life, and returning as the head coach of the Blues is a proud moment for me and my family. I look forward to working with our talented players to bring a new energy to New South Wales cricket and to build a team with a playing style that is exceptional and unique, one we can all be proud of. Wearing the Baggy Blue was very special and provided me with some of my best career memories.”
Team CEO Lee German stated, “I am pleased to welcome Brad Haddin back to cricket in New South Wales. He is a well-respected coach with immense experience at both international and franchise levels. His deep understanding of New South Wales’ playing style will hopefully advance our program and prepare the team robustly for upcoming tournaments.”
Haddin has previously worked with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and is currently part of Ricky Ponting’s coaching staff at Punjab Kings.
As head coach of New South Wales, Haddin will take charge in June. He brings international coaching experience, having served as an assistant and fielding coach for Australia under Darren Lehmann and Justin Langer. He aims to establish a strong foundation for adopting a distinctive playing style and developing first-class and Australian players to challenge for future titles.
Haddin represented New South Wales as a player in 2014. He has played 66 Tests, 126 ODIs, and 34 T20 matches for Australia.
