Future of Indian Sports Relies on Strong Coordination Among Athletes, Federations, and Governments: Mandaviya

New Delhi, May 7: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, stated on Wednesday that the National Sports Federation Conclave 2026 is a crucial step in streamlining India’s preparations for major international sports events in the coming decade.

The conclave brought together officials from 37 National Sports Federations (NSFs), including the Indian Olympic Association. They discussed strategies for India’s sports roadmap and events such as the Commonwealth Games 2026, Asian Games 2026, and Summer Olympics 2028.

Addressing the assembly, Mandaviya emphasized, “The National Sports Federation Conclave is a coordinated step towards India’s readiness for upcoming global sports events.”

The minister highlighted the central government’s vision to establish India as a leading sports nation through scientific training systems, long-term athlete development, improved infrastructure, and continuous support mechanisms for top athletes.

Mandaviya stressed the need for institutional reforms and strong coordination among stakeholders, stating, “The future of Indian sports depends on robust coordination among athletes, federations, and governments.”

He asserted that athlete welfare should be at the core of all administrative decisions. He urged federations to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely elections while strengthening governance systems. “Athlete welfare and athlete-centric governance should be the primary focus of every federation,” Mandaviya said.

The Union Sports Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to combat doping in sports, which will involve awareness campaigns, educational programs, and strict enforcement measures.

Mandaviya stated, “Eliminating doping from the Indian sports ecosystem requires collective responsibility and stringent action.” He called on federations, coaches, and support staff to work together to promote a clean sports environment. He also highlighted initiatives like ‘Khelo India’, the ‘Fit India Movement’, and the upcoming ‘Khelo Bharat Mission’.

The minister discussed the importance of sports science, competitive experience, professional leagues, academies, and private sector participation in enhancing India’s medal prospects in future international events. During the conclave, a handbook outlining the ‘National Sports Governance Act 2025 rules and reform guidelines’ was officially released.

State Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, emphasized the significance of science-based training and long-term planning in building a strong sports infrastructure. He remarked, “India’s journey towards the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the 2028 Olympics will be driven by performance, powered by the strength of science, and based on robust federations.”

Discussions at the conference also focused on India’s evolving sports roadmap, including strategies for the Khelo India Mission medal strategy, promoting sports material production, scientific fitness protocols, athlete evaluation, strengthening anti-doping laws, technical activities for national sports federations, governance and compliance under the NSG Act 2025, ambitions to host major international sports events, and enhancing representation in global federations, along with strategic preparations for upcoming sports events.
