Kolkata, June 7: An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Minister Udayan Guha at the Mathabhanga police station in Cooch Behar district. He is accused of threatening the life of renowned folk singer Manindra Nath Barman.
Manindra Nath Barman, a resident of Nayarhat in Mathabhanga, filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that Udayan Guha threatened him. On Friday night, he arrived at the Mathabhanga police station with his lawyer to formally lodge his complaint.
In his complaint, the singer stated that he had composed and publicly performed a song criticizing alleged corruption in the Trinamool Congress government before the assembly elections. Following this, he claims Udayan Guha threatened him and sent goons after him.
Manindra Nath Barman asserted that due to threats to his life, he was forced to live in hiding for an extended period. He has provided the police with all relevant facts and allegations related to the case.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Manindra Nath said, “During the Trinamool Congress government, I wrote and sang several songs against the state government. This angered Udayan Guha. Many Trinamool leaders from Dinhata threatened my life, forcing me to flee. At that time, I couldn’t file a police complaint because goons were after me.”
It is noteworthy that before the assembly elections, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Partha Pratim Ray had visited Manindra Nath Barman’s home with a list of the government’s development works over the past 15 years.
After the FIR was filed, attempts were made to contact Udayan Guha, but his mobile phone was found to be switched off. The local Trinamool Congress leadership also declined to comment on the matter.
Following the establishment of a BJP government in the state, actions against alleged illegal and criminal activities linked to Trinamool Congress leaders have intensified. The police are continuously taking action against Trinamool leaders and anti-social elements for violations of the law.
In the past month, several Trinamool Congress councilors have been arrested on charges of corruption and extortion across the state.
