Former Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui Resigns from Congress Ahead of UP Assembly Polls

Lucknow: In a significant political development in Uttar Pradesh ahead of next year’s assembly elections, senior leader and former minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui has resigned from the Congress party. Once a prominent figure in the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and considered close to Mayawati, Siddiqui had joined Congress after leaving BSP. Now, he has decided to part ways with Congress as well.

Political Impact of Siddiqui’s Resignation

The departure of Naseemuddin Siddiqui, a senior leader and former minister, has created a stir in UP’s political landscape. Siddiqui was viewed by Congress as a key Muslim face after his entry from BSP. However, despite his leadership, the party failed to gain significant ground in organisational strength or electoral success.

Reasons Cited for Leaving Congress

In his resignation letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddiqui cited “compelling personal reasons” for quitting the party. He formally resigned from his primary membership and all organisational responsibilities. Siddiqui clarified that he holds no personal grievances against any Congress office-bearer but expressed that the objectives for which he had joined the party were not being fulfilled.

Future Political Prospects and Supporters

Political circles speculate that Siddiqui may join Chandrashekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party in the near future, though no official confirmation has come from Siddiqui himself. Along with him, around 72 leaders, including former legislators Farhat Hasan alias Haji Shabban, former MLC Husna Siddiqui, Ram Jiwan, Afzal Siddiqui, Samarpal Singh, Naseem Khan, and Naseem Siddiqui, have also resigned. Siddiqui mentioned ongoing discussions with his associates regarding their future political strategy.

Naseemuddin Siddiqui is a well-known figure in UP politics, having started his career with BSP and held important ministerial portfolios in Mayawati’s government. Known for his powerful speeches and strong grassroots connect, he has been influential among Dalits, backward classes, and minority communities in the state.

This resignation adds a new dimension to the political equations in Uttar Pradesh as parties gear up for the upcoming assembly elections.
