Tahir Hussain, former AAP councillor, receives a two-year sentence for inciting riots in New Delhi, marking a significant legal blow.

New Delhi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant development in the Delhi riots case, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain has been sentenced to two years in prison. The Karkardooma Court found him guilty of inciting violence during the riots that erupted in February 2020.
The court’s ruling came after Hussain was accused of gathering crowds and promoting violence. He faced multiple charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 147, 148, and 149 for rioting, 427 for causing damage to property, 436 for arson, and 120B for criminal conspiracy. Following the trial, the court convicted him on all counts.
This is not the first time Hussain has faced legal repercussions. Previously, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a separate case related to the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the riots. The court had noted Hussain’s active involvement in the violence and his role in orchestrating the chaos.
The riots in North East Delhi resulted in the deaths of over 53 individuals and left hundreds injured, causing extensive property damage. The Delhi Police registered numerous FIRs in connection with the violence, many of which named Hussain as a key accused.
At the time of the riots, Hussain was serving as an AAP councillor. However, following the allegations against him, the party suspended him. Currently, he remains incarcerated as he faces additional charges in other ongoing cases.
