
New Delhi, April 7: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the formal inauguration of the High Commission of Saint Kitts and Nevis in New Delhi on Tuesday. The event was also attended by Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Industry, and Economic Development of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
During the event, both leaders discussed strengthening partnerships in key areas such as development projects, health cooperation, digital capabilities, and disaster management.
S. Jaishankar expressed his happiness on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “I was pleased to join Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce, Consumer Affairs, Economic Development, and Investment, for the formal inauguration of the High Commission of Saint Kitts and Nevis in New Delhi. I believe this new resident mission will further deepen our partnership.”
Dr. Douglas, who also oversees international trade and investment in his country, engaged in discussions on regional and global issues with Jaishankar.
Jaishankar remarked, “It was a pleasure to host Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, the Foreign Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on Tuesday. We had fruitful discussions on development projects, health cooperation, digital capabilities, and disaster management, along with regional and global issues.”
Douglas arrived in New Delhi after completing his engagements in Chandigarh. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that this visit is a significant step towards strengthening the relationship and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
India and Saint Kitts and Nevis have maintained friendly relations. In July 2007, both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve the Foreign Office Consultation system at the bureaucratic level. As a Commonwealth nation, Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Saint Kitts and Nevis.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Saint Kitts and Nevis generally supports India’s stance on international platforms.
