Flood Threat in Uttarakhand Due to Continuous Rainfall, Roads Damaged, Public Life Disrupted

Dehradun, 17 August (Kiran News). Torrential rainfall continues in Uttarakhand. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain today for Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi. In view of the forecast of low to moderate level flood risk in the state, people have been advised to exercise caution.

According to the forecast issued by the Hydromet Division of the India Meteorological Department, New Delhi, there is a possibility of waterlogging and flood risk in certain areas of Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi due to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Following the warning from the Meteorological Department, the State Disaster Management Authority has instructed districts to ensure immediate ground response and information exchange in case of any disaster or accident. All officers designated under the Disaster Management IRA system and departmental nodal officers will remain on high alert. In case of blocked motor roads, immediate action will be taken to reopen them.

All revenue sub-inspectors, village development officers, and gram panchayat officers will remain present in their respective deployment areas. Other departments have also been instructed to stay alert. Secretary of the State Disaster Management Authority, Vinod Kumar Suman, stated that river water levels are expected to rise, and special vigilance is being maintained in coastal areas.

Several Roads Closed Due to Rain

According to information from the Provincial Division of the Public Works Department, the following motor roads are closed: Mauldhar Serki Silla, Purukul to Bhitarli Kimadi, Maldevta Serki Silla to Bhaiswaad village, Sahastradhara to Sarona, Soda Saroli to Akhandwali Bhilang, Dharkot to Ladwako, Dudhlani Chunou to Kamla, Tyuni Chandni to Piwawal motor road.

In addition, rivers like Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Saryu, Yamuna, Gomti, and others are in spate and touching danger marks. Special vigilance is being maintained in coastal areas. The State Disaster Management Authority has instructed all districts to remain on alert.
