Lucknow, June 13: A joint police team from the Cyber Crime Cell and Cyber Police Station in Lucknow has uncovered an organized gang involved in defrauding job seekers across the country under the pretense of providing online jobs. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with this scam.
Police recovered 11 keypad mobile phones, 2 Android phones, a laptop, 102 work data sheets, and 26 fake joining letters, approval letters, and registration documents from the suspects.
ADCP Kiran Yadav informed reporters that this operation was part of a campaign aimed at effectively curbing cyber crimes and apprehending criminals. The action was conducted under the guidance of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Headquarters), the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), and the Additional Police Commissioner (Crime). The team raided an illegal call center operating on the fourth floor of JS Tower in the Vibhutikhand area, leading to the arrests.
The investigation revealed that the accused purchased data of job-seeking youths from various websites. Employees at the call center would then contact these candidates, promising them lucrative job offers at reputable companies like Amul, Amazon, Infosys, Flipkart, Mankind, Suzuki, Parle, and Cipla. To gain the candidates’ trust, the fraudsters sent fake joining letters, approval letters, and registration documents via WhatsApp.
Subsequently, the candidates were charged registration fees, interview charges, gate pass fees, and other procedural costs. The money obtained from these scams was transferred to fake bank accounts. Upon checking the recovered mobile numbers and IMEI on the NCRB portal, several complaints were found registered from across the country.
Among those arrested are the alleged gang manager Zeeshan Khan, team leader Satish Pal, and callers Sonali Chaurasia, Shivani Verma, and Neelu Verma. The police are conducting a thorough investigation and are on the lookout for other individuals connected to the gang. Authorities have urged youths to verify the authenticity of any job offers and associated fees before making any payments.
