Kanpur, August 2 (H.S.) — In a touching example of women’s empowerment and filial devotion, five daughters in Kanpur carried the body of their late father on their shoulders and donated it to a medical college, fulfilling his final wish.

Comrade R.K. Tiwari, an 83-year-old retired employee leader from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, passed away on Friday after a brief illness. Following his death, daughter Poonam contacted body donation campaign head Manoj Sengar to ensure her father’s pledge was honoured.
Sengar coordinated with Kanpur Medical College the same night, arranging all necessary procedures. On Saturday, a hearse was sent to transport the body to the college.
The five daughters — Priyanka, Poonam, Bhavna, Geetanjali, and Vasudha — carried their father’s body from their Ashok Nagar residence to the medical college, chanting slogans of solidarity and tribute. Upon arrival, they bid an emotional farewell by beating a dapli (tambourine) as a symbolic gesture of celebration of his noble act.
Anant Vijay from the Anatomy Department of Kanpur Medical College respectfully accepted the donated body. The daughters and their children also addressed a memorial gathering held at the college, where a two-minute silence was observed in honour of the deceased.
Manoj Sengar, head of the Yuga Dadhichi Organ and Body Donation Campaign, informed that a total of 303 body donations have been facilitated so far under the initiative. He encouraged more people to join the campaign and contribute to medical science and humanity.
