Patna, July 21: BJP legislator Maithili Thakur has expressed her support for proposed laws aimed at combating misleading posts and promoting gambling on social media. She also commented on the Bankipur by-election, the absence of Tejashwi Yadav from the assembly, and the issue of schools being painted saffron.
During a conversation regarding the Bankipur assembly by-election, Thakur stated, “People have already made up their minds. BJP workers are visible everywhere on the ground. I was unaware that candidates from other parties were contesting. Yesterday, I visited two different regions for campaigning, and everywhere, people were chanting in support of the BJP. There was tremendous enthusiasm among the public, and the BJP is receiving full support.”
Regarding the new bill targeting those who post misleading content or promote gambling, Thakur remarked, “This bill has several aspects. We must first acknowledge that the internet significantly impacts our lives today. Not only celebrities but ordinary people also face situations where offensive comments are posted by friends or others on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, causing mental stress.”
She emphasized that such laws would be beneficial, as they would help people control their language.
On the absence of Tejashwi Yadav from the assembly, Thakur noted that while the ruling party’s discussions are crucial, the opposition’s questions are equally important. The absence of the opposition certainly affects the discussions.
Addressing the issue of schools being painted saffron in Bihar, Thakur stated, “I view this as a matter of maintenance. Many schools are being painted, and several modern schools are also being inaugurated.”
