
Ranchi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Police in Ranchi have made significant progress in the kidnapping and assault case involving Saurabh Kumar, the son of Janardan Paswan, a legislator from the Chatra constituency. On September 7, Kumar was abducted and assaulted, leading to the arrest of five suspects in Kolkata.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Raunak Singh Rajput, Prakash Gupta, Ayush Kumar, Pritam, and Gyandeep. According to police reports, Kumar was with his friends Amardeep Dubey, Anmol, and Ravishankar near the Amity University gate when a dispute arose between Amardeep and a junior student named Lucky Raj.
The situation escalated when Lucky allegedly called in a group of external youths. Shortly thereafter, around 10 to 12 young men arrived in two black Scorpios and began attacking Kumar. Witnesses reported that they beat him with sticks and forcibly placed him in one of the vehicles.
During the abduction, Kumar claims he was assaulted and strangled while in the moving car. He also reported that his mobile phone and a gold chain weighing approximately 20 grams were stolen. Following the incident, police launched an immediate investigation.
Authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the university and surrounding areas, collecting technical evidence to locate the suspects. This led to the recovery of Kumar within two hours of his abduction. In a follow-up operation, police intensified their search, ultimately apprehending the five suspects in Kolkata. Investigators are now questioning them to uncover additional details about the incident and the underlying conflict.
