Modi Captures Family Photo with BRICS Leaders at 18th Summit

New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined leaders from BRICS member states, partner nations, and international organizations for a family photo during the 18th BRICS Summit. The event took place on September 13 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Among those present were Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and WHO Director-General Antonio Guterres, among others.

Earlier that day, Modi welcomed the leaders of the expanded BRICS group as they arrived for the summit’s second day. On Saturday, BRICS nations adopted the “New Delhi Declaration,” which praised India’s role in hosting the outreach/BRICS Plus dialogue session. The declaration emphasized that India’s presidency has injected new energy and momentum into international cooperation and global solidarity.

The summit, themed “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development,” saw leaders reaffirm their commitment to the BRICS spirit of mutual respect, understanding, sovereign equality, unity, democracy, openness, inclusivity, collaboration, and consensus.

The agreement on a joint statement on the first day of the summit was hailed as a significant diplomatic achievement, given the differing views among member countries on various international and geopolitical issues.

The New Delhi Declaration outlined that, after two decades of BRICS, member countries are committed to enhancing cooperation across three pillars: political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The declaration also called for promoting peace, a more representative and fair international order, a new and improved multilateral system, sustainable development, and inclusive growth for the benefit of their people.

On Saturday evening, Modi hosted a gala dinner at Bharat Mandapam in honor of the BRICS leaders, where all prominent leaders were in attendance. Additionally, the leaders participated in a joint tree planting ceremony and visited the India Innovates Expo held at Bharat Mandapam.
