New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on September 13, 2026, in New Delhi, ahead of the 18th BRICS summit. The high-level meeting also included key officials such as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The two leaders exchanged warm greetings before discussing various topics with Tokayev’s delegation. India is hosting the two-day summit, which brings together leaders from BRICS member nations and invited partner countries.
Earlier, Modi and Tokayev participated in a group photo session with leaders from BRICS and other invited nations at the India Mandapam. The BRICS group includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Associate members include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
Tokayev also attended a lavish dinner hosted by Modi at the India Mandapam on Saturday evening. During the summit, leaders from 11 BRICS nations unanimously adopted the “New Delhi Declaration,” commending India’s presidency for enhancing international cooperation and unity.
The leaders reiterated their commitment to the BRICS spirit of mutual respect, sovereign equality, democracy, openness, inclusivity, cooperation, and consensus. Tokayev arrived in New Delhi on Saturday, where he was welcomed at the airport by Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar.
