Fire Erupts on Passenger Train at Simri Bakhtiyarpur Station, Passengers Evacuated Safely

Patna, August 3: A massive fire broke out early Monday morning around 3:25 AM on the Samastipur-Saharsa passenger train (63344) at platform number 2 of Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station in Saharsa district, causing panic among passengers and railway staff.

Initial reports indicate that the fire started near the middle engine of the train and quickly spread to three coaches. Thick smoke and towering flames created chaos at the station. At the time of the incident, a large number of passengers were onboard. As soon as they spotted the flames, passengers began to evacuate the coaches, preventing a major disaster.

Sanjay Kumar, a passenger from Saharsa, reported feeling intense heat coming from beneath the coach. When he checked, he saw flames and immediately alerted fellow passengers.

Another passenger, Raju Kumar, mentioned that he boarded the train at Mansi station to travel to Simri Bakhtiyarpur. Shortly after the train arrived at the station, he noticed a fire near the engine, which rapidly escalated.

When station officials ordered passengers to exit the train, panic ensued among those inside the coaches.

After receiving news of the fire, multiple fire engines and railway officials rushed to the station. Firefighters acted swiftly and eventually brought the blaze under control. This incident disrupted rail operations in Simri Bakhtiyarpur, affecting several trains.

Station Superintendent Sanjay Kumar Sajjan stated that services were severely impacted. Trains such as the Kosi Express (Saharsa-Patna), Janaki Express (Manihari-Jaynagar), Saharsa-Samastipur passenger, and Shravani Special (Saharsa-Deoghar) experienced delays. According to the superintendent, a short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire, although the exact reason is still under investigation.

Railway and local administration officials arrived at the scene to oversee relief and firefighting efforts. An investigation has been initiated to determine the precise cause of the incident, and officials are assessing the damage to the affected coaches.
