Finn Allen Makes History with Fastest T20 World Cup Century

Kolkata, March 4: New Zealand’s explosive opener Finn Allen has set a new record for the fastest century in T20 World Cup history. He achieved this remarkable feat against South Africa in the first semifinal held in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Allen’s choice of match and stage for his record-breaking century will be remembered for years to come. He led his team to the finals with ease, dominating South Africa’s bowlers as if they were club-level players. Opening the innings, Allen scored an unbeaten 100 runs off just 33 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 10 fours. This is now the fastest century in T20 World Cup history.

Previously, the record for the fastest T20 World Cup century was held by West Indies’ Chris Gayle, who scored a century off 47 balls against England in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Finn Allen also became the batsman with the highest score in knockout matches in T20 World Cup history. He surpassed the previous record of 96 runs set by Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan against West Indies in the 2009 World Cup semifinal.

Allen is now the third New Zealand player to score a century in the T20 World Cup. He follows in the footsteps of Brendon McCullum, who scored 123 runs against Bangladesh in 2012, and Glenn Phillips, who made 104 runs against Sri Lanka in 2022.

In the match, South Africa batted first after losing the toss, scoring 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, with Marco Jansen top-scoring with 55 runs.

Chasing a target of 170, New Zealand reached 173 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket in 12.5 overs, winning the match by 9 wickets. Allen remained unbeaten at 100 off 33 balls, while Ravindra contributed 13 runs off 11 balls. Tim Seifert scored 58 runs off 33 balls. Finn Allen was named Player of the Match for his memorable innings.
