Financial Services Reach Rural Areas Through Postal Network, Says Union Minister

New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced on September 14 that the India Post Payments Bank and doorstep banking initiatives have significantly enhanced the postal network’s ability to deliver financial services directly to villages and homes. This development allows citizens to access banking facilities conveniently near their residences.

During a meeting with representatives from all-India employee organizations of the postal department, Dr. Singh discussed various matters related to postal services, employees, and pensioners. The representatives highlighted the expansion of India Post’s service portfolio over the past decade, which now includes 24-hour delivery, Aadhaar-related services, and the availability of PAN and passport services through the postal network.

They emphasized the growing role of India Post in providing banking and financial services directly at the doorstep, reflecting the changing role of postal workers who now deliver essential services to citizens. Dr. Singh noted that the postal network has evolved from traditional mail delivery to a comprehensive platform offering financial and civic services, serving as a vital last-mile connection between government services and the public.

The postal network has also introduced services like the digital life certificate for pensioners, making essential pension-related services more accessible and convenient. Dr. Singh recalled the crucial role played by postal workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the postal network continued to provide essential services despite nationwide lockdowns.

Postal employees assisted in delivering banking services and cash directly to citizens’ homes. They also utilized postal vehicles and infrastructure to deliver essential medical and protective supplies. The representatives praised the government’s efforts to modernize India Post, thanking Prime Minister Modi for transforming it into a citizen-centric service network. They noted that these changes have significantly expanded India Post’s role and brought a wide range of citizen-centric services closer to people across the country.

Today, India Post has transcended traditional mail delivery, strengthening its public service role with faster delivery services, Aadhaar-related features, PAN and passport services, doorstep banking, and digital pension services.
