Chennai, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Chennai is expecting moderate rainfall on Monday, as the meteorological department predicts thunderstorms and strong winds across several districts. In the northern interior regions, temperatures may remain above normal.
According to the weather department, light to moderate rain is likely at one or two locations, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and high winds. Districts such as Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Erode, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Madurai, Shivaganga, Salem, and Tiruppur are expected to experience moderate rainfall during the day. Wind speeds in these areas could reach between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.
Other parts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, may also see light rain with thunder and lightning.
The forecast indicates varied rainfall conditions across the region, with some districts likely to receive moderate showers while others may experience light rain.
Despite the rain forecast, maximum temperatures in some areas of northern interior Tamil Nadu could be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than normal. The department expects temperatures in other parts of the state, including Puducherry and Karaikal, to remain around normal levels.
In Chennai, partly cloudy skies are anticipated. The city’s maximum temperature is expected to range between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may fall between 26 to 27 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, weather observer Pradeep John has indicated that the northeast monsoon could begin next Thursday. This prediction comes as favorable atmospheric conditions for seasonal rainfall are developing in Tamil Nadu.
John shared on social media platform X that an atmospheric circulation moving towards the region could create conditions conducive for the monsoon’s arrival.
His assessment relates to the potential onset of the northeast monsoon, while the weather department’s bulletin provides details on immediate forecasts for rainfall, winds, and temperatures. The arrival of the monsoon on Thursday is still a prediction rather than an officially confirmed date.
The main forecast for Monday includes scattered thunderstorms, strong winds, and varying intensities of rainfall, alongside warm weather in some northern interior parts.
