Farooq Abdullah Faces Legal Setback in JKCA Scam Case

Srinagar, March 12: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference president, Farooq Abdullah, has received a significant legal setback. The Srinagar District Court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him. The court rejected his plea for exemption from personal appearance in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam case. The next hearing is scheduled for March 30.

This order was issued during a session in which the court was set to frame charges against the accused. The court emphasized that the personal presence of the accused is mandatory, thus denying the request for exemption.

The case revolves around alleged financial irregularities within the operations of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). Investigations revealed that there were discrepancies in the use of the association’s funds, leading to millions of rupees in questionable financial transactions.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been probing this case. The agency has already filed a chargesheet against several accused individuals, including Farooq Abdullah.

According to the chargesheet submitted by the CBI, the accused face charges under Sections 120-B, 406, and 409 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). Court records indicate that the investigation uncovered alleged irregularities in financial transactions during the operation of the JKCA, prompting the case to be handed over to the CBI.

Following the issuance of the non-bailable warrant by the court, the next hearing will take place on March 30, when the court will deliberate on further legal proceedings.

It is noteworthy that Farooq Abdullah has previously served as the president of the JKCA and has faced serious allegations of misconduct during his tenure. The CBI has filed charges against him along with several others in this matter.
