New Delhi, August 2: The central government has decided to extend the Prime Minister Kisan Scheme for another five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The Union Cabinet has approved a financial allocation of ₹31 lakh crore for this initiative. Farmers in Bihar have welcomed this decision and are urging the government to make the scheme permanent.
In discussions, farmers expressed that this scheme is beneficial for small and marginal farmers. The funds received help them manage various agricultural activities. Millions are benefiting from this support, and now, the scheme is set to continue for another five years.
While farmers acknowledge the advantages of the scheme, they argue that the current amount of ₹2,000 is insufficient. With rising inflation, they believe the financial assistance should be adjusted accordingly. If increased, even middle-class farmers could take advantage of the scheme.
Farmers noted that the scheme has positively impacted small farmers, enhancing productivity and improving their living standards. According to reports, 92% of farmers in Bihar have utilized this money for agricultural purposes.
In conversations, farmers expressed a strong desire for the scheme to continue indefinitely. They want the government to make it a permanent fixture. This initiative has conveyed to farmers that the government cares about their welfare and includes them in its priorities.
Farmers also highlighted that as prices for fertilizers, seeds, and fuel continue to rise, the scheme’s financial support should be increased as well. This funding has made farming easier, allowing them to purchase fertilizers on time and ensuring timely agricultural practices.
