Elderly Man Shot Dead Over Path Dispute in Bihars Vaishali District

Patna, August 2: A 70-year-old man was shot dead on Saturday morning in a long-standing dispute over a path in Vaishali district, Bihar. The incident occurred in the Raghopur East Panchayat area of the Judawanpur police station jurisdiction.

The victim has been identified as Harbanshu Rai. The shooting has led to heightened tensions in the village, prompting police teams from Judawanpur and Raghopur to be deployed to the scene to monitor the situation closely.

According to officials, Harbanshu Rai had been embroiled in a dispute with his neighbor, Shyam Nandan Rai, regarding the path for an extended period. Allegations suggest that Shyam Nandan Rai constructed a house on the disputed path, while Harbanshu Rai had erected poles around the area.

Reports indicate that previous altercations had occurred between the two parties over this issue. On Saturday morning, tensions escalated once again, leading to a confrontation between the groups.

The dispute quickly intensified, and gunfire was reportedly exchanged. Harbanshu Rai was shot in the eye and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The victim’s family has accused Shyam Nandan Rai, Rajaram Rai, and Karuna Rai of being involved in the murder. Following the incident, a large number of villagers gathered at the site, further escalating tensions in the area.

Police officials arrived, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Teams are currently gathering evidence from the scene and conducting raids to apprehend the suspects, who remain at large.

Vaishali Superintendent of Police Shubhang Mishra confirmed that the police received reports of the shooting and are conducting a thorough investigation. He stated that efforts to apprehend the suspects have been intensified, and strict legal action will be taken against those responsible. The accused will be arrested soon.

An FIR for murder has been registered against Shyam Nandan Rai and other suspects under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Judawanpur police station.
