Chennai, August 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday regarding his comments about the proposed delimitation in the Lok Sabha. The party accused Gandhi of creating division among the people of Tamil Nadu and spreading fear.
BJP spokesperson Narayanan Tirupati responded to Gandhi’s statement, in which he claimed that anyone supporting the delimitation would be betraying Tamil Nadu. Tirupati emphasized that the BJP has already clarified that this process will not adversely affect any state.
He questioned how Gandhi could know the details of the delimitation plan and argued that the concerns being raised are premature. He stated that there has been a demand for proportional delimitation and reiterated that the BJP’s position is clear: no state will face undue impact.
Tirupati accused Gandhi of fostering division based on religion and caste, asserting that his statements harm the social fabric of the country. He labeled Gandhi as “anti-national” and accused him of attempting to destabilize the nation.
The BJP spokesperson alleged that Gandhi is frustrated by the Congress’s more than 12 years out of power at the center, which is why the party resorts to confrontational politics. He accused Gandhi of colluding with “anarchists, malicious forces, and anti-national elements,” claiming that he is forming alliances with external powers.
Despite holding a constitutional position, Tirupati stated that Gandhi behaves like an “anti-national leader.”
These comments from the BJP leader came after Rahul Gandhi criticized the proposed delimitation during his visit to Tamil Nadu on Saturday. He alleged that the aim of the delimitation is to diminish Tamil Nadu’s political representation and influence. He urged both regional and national political parties to oppose any delimitation proposal that could negatively impact the state’s representation in Parliament.
Gandhi claimed that supporting such measures would be a betrayal of Tamil Nadu and its people.
