Surat, August 2: The Indian Army has successfully rescued 34 individuals in the flood-hit village of Kadodara, Surat district, while distributing relief supplies to over 400 people. Heavy rainfall across various regions of Gujarat has triggered extensive rescue, health, and emergency relief operations.
Flood relief teams from the Southern Command of the Indian Army have been deployed in coordination with district administration following continuous rainfall and flooding in Kadodara.
According to officials, the teams have rescued 34 civilians, relocated affected families to safer areas, and provided essential relief materials to more than 400 individuals.
Equipped with boats and life-saving equipment, army personnel remain stationed in the affected areas, prepared to respond to any emergencies. The Indian Army has stated that its personnel continue to provide vital assistance during the floods, reflecting their motto of “Service Before Self.”
The weather conditions are severe. In response, officials in Narmada district have initiated “Operation Safe Delivery” to ensure timely medical care for pregnant women in vulnerable areas.
Between July 30 and August 1, health teams surveyed 142 pregnant women living in flood-affected regions, with expected delivery dates on or before August 15. Of these, 101 women were transported to health centers as a precaution, resulting in 25 successful deliveries.
District Reproductive and Child Health Officer Jhankhana Vasava reported that of the 25 deliveries, six occurred in Gadudeshwar and Nandod talukas, five in Chikda, four in Sagbara, three in Tilakwada, and one in Dediapada.
She stated, “All 25 mothers and their newborns are healthy and safe.”
Emergency medical services in Vadodara district have also been under pressure. The 108 emergency ambulance service has managed over 730 emergency cases in the past three days, despite adverse weather conditions.
Officials noted that these cases included 131 pregnant women, 84 road accidents, 60 respiratory illness cases, 55 heart disease cases, and numerous other medical emergencies requiring immediate assistance.
In Surendranagar district, rescue teams saved three members of a family—a man, a woman, and a small child—trapped in floodwaters in Kerala village of Wadhwan taluka. Fire brigade personnel conducted the rescue operation, ensuring their safe relocation.
Authorities in Bharuch district have remained deployed in affected areas, coordinating relief and rescue efforts through the district control room.
