Exploring Russia Beyond Moscow: New Tourism Initiatives Launched in India

Russia showcases its diverse tourism offerings in India, highlighting destinations beyond Moscow and St. Petersburg.

New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : India and Russia are set to enhance their long-standing friendship with a fresh focus on tourism. At the Russian House in New Delhi, the “Open Your Russia 2.0 Inbound Tourism Development Program” hosted an expert validation session. During this event, representatives from four new Russian regions introduced their tourism products to the Indian tourism industry.

Organized by the Centre for Strategic Research and Rosotrudnichestvo, this initiative aims to inform Indian travelers that Russia is not limited to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Instead, it offers eco-trails, wildlife sanctuaries, and a wealth of natural wonders waiting to be explored.

Alexandra Usacheva, Deputy CEO of the Centre for Strategic Research, emphasized the historical ties between Russia and India. She noted that while their friendship is deep-rooted, the tourism connection has not been as strong. “We are here to promote Russia as a travel destination, showing that beyond the well-known cities, there are many other places for Indian travelers to discover,” she said.

Payal Swami, Assistant Secretary General of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), praised the initiative, highlighting that hospitality knows no boundaries. “India values hospitality, and this 2.0 initiative welcomes tourists while promoting the hospitality industry,” she stated.

Subhash Goyal, Chairman of STIC Travels and the Aviation and Tourism Expert Committee of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, remarked that the seminar brought together representatives from both nations’ tourism sectors. “The goal is to boost tourism between our countries. Russia is the largest country in the world, and the four regions showcased today are incredibly beautiful,” he added.

Anupam Vohra, Moscow MICE Ambassador and Vice President of the Association of Hospitality Professionals Welfare (India), noted that representatives from various regions highlighted the diversity of destinations in Russia. “Even if tourists choose not to visit conflict-affected areas, they can still explore other beautiful parts of the country,” he said.

Alexander Dodonov, head of the Rosotrudnichestvo representative office in India, expressed optimism about the potential partnerships. “The four regions from Russia are here to find partners in India. I am confident that many connections will be established,” he remarked.

Alexandra Verbitskaya, Chief Specialist in the International Cooperation Department of the Leningrad Region’s Committee for External Relations, shared insights on the appeal of nature tourism. “We develop eco-trails designed to keep tourists safe while allowing them to observe wildlife in their natural habitats. Tourists can enjoy nature and discover a new side of Russia without venturing too far,” she explained.

This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening tourism ties between India and Russia, showcasing the diverse and picturesque landscapes that await travelers in the vast country.
