Gaurav Gogoi Calls for Accountability and Democratic Action

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi urges citizens to demand accountability from elected representatives and protect democratic freedoms.

Guwahati, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi from Assam urged citizens on Monday to demand accountability from their elected representatives. He called for public protests to address people’s concerns and safeguard democratic freedoms. His remarks followed the recent “Chalo Delhi” campaign, which took place over the weekend.

In a post on the social media platform X, Gogoi emphasized the necessity of activism for citizens seeking action on issues that affect them. He stated, “If you want accountability from your politicians, then protest. If you want your concerns addressed, then protest.”

Gogoi highlighted the importance of continuing to raise voices for the freedom to question elected officials and express worries about the nation’s future. “If you want the freedom to question your representatives, then protest. If you are concerned about your country’s future, then protest,” he reiterated.

These comments came in the context of a mass mobilization in the national capital under the “Chalo Delhi” slogan. The event drew participants from various regions to Ram Leela Maidan, where the Congress party led protests against the ruling government and the Chief Election Commissioner.

The opposition has been persistently calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In another post, Gogoi described the gathering at Ram Leela Maidan as a historic moment, noting the stark contrast between the crowd inside the venue and the large turnout on the streets of Delhi.

He remarked, “While there was a sea of people inside Ram Leela Maidan, outside the venue, it was like an ocean. People from every corner of India took to the streets of Delhi.”

Gogoi’s statements underscore the Congress party’s focus on grassroots movements and protests as vital tools for democratic expression. His appeal highlights the role of public participation in holding elected officials accountable. The “Chalo Delhi” campaign has emerged as a platform for political mobilization, showcasing the participation of diverse groups and marking a significant demonstration of civic engagement.
