Suspect Arrested After Gunfight for Stealing Womans Earring in Bareilly
A suspect was arrested in Bareilly after a gunfight with police following the theft of a womans earring.

Bareilly, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, police arrested a man on Monday after he was involved in a gunfight related to the theft of a woman’s earring. The suspect was shot in the leg during the encounter, which led to his capture.
Authorities recovered an illegal .32 caliber pistol, two live cartridges, a spent cartridge, the motorcycle used in the crime, and the stolen yellow metal earring from the suspect.
The incident came to light when Sunil, a resident of Kamalpur Palpur village, filed a complaint on November 1. He reported that on October 30, while riding a motorcycle with his wife Eshu to her parental home in the Faridpur area, an unidentified biker snatched an earring from her ear around 5 PM near Dashmesh Dhaba and fled.
Based on this complaint, an FIR was lodged against the unknown assailant under Section 304(2) of the Indian Penal Code at the Faridpur police station, prompting the formation of a police investigation team.
During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage and utilized the Yaksh app’s “Find by Face” technology, which led to the identification of the suspect as Devaraj, a resident of Bakainiya village.
On Monday, police received a tip-off that Devaraj was seen riding a motorcycle near the Faridpur toll plaza and could be planning another crime. Acting on this information, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police set up a checkpoint near Mohanpur village. At around 7:30 AM, they spotted a motorcycle approaching. When officers signaled for the rider to stop, he opened fire with a pistol. In self-defense, police returned fire, injuring the suspect in the leg.
After his arrest, the injured Devaraj, son of Shyam Bihari, was taken to the district hospital for treatment, and legal proceedings commenced.
Police noted that the motorcycle he was riding lacked a number plate. A check through the e-challan application revealed its registration number, confirming it was the same vehicle used in the October 30 theft. During questioning, Devaraj admitted to the crime, and the recovered earring was identified as the stolen item listed in FIR number 833/2026.
Authorities revealed that 28-year-old Devaraj already had eight prior criminal cases registered against him in Bareilly.
