New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : A significant conference focused on “Semiconductors and Next-Generation Chips” is set to take place in New Delhi from October 27 to 29. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will lead this initiative. The session aims to explore domestic chip development, AI-based technologies, and the growing importance of semiconductors in the defense sector.
Organized under the guidance of the Government of India’s Chief Scientific Advisor, the event is a collaboration of 12 different ministries and departments. It will bring together industry leaders, academic institutions, experts in domestic chip development, and representatives from the defense electronics sector. Discussions will center on custom-designed chips, AI at the chip level, and the evolving nature of microprocessor technology.
The primary goal of this session is to foster dialogue among experts on topics related to chip manufacturing, design, research and development, and their strategic applications in defense. It also aims to strengthen collaboration among industries, educational institutions, and research organizations, seeking to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem in the country.
An exhibition showcasing various indigenous technologies and tools developed by DRDO laboratories will be a highlight of the conference. Attendees can expect to see advanced communication systems, samples of quantum technology, specialized clothing for extreme cold, the ‘Prabha’ safety armor designed for women’s full-body protection, a portable hybrid energy management system, high-power pulsed laser diodes, and scramjet engine technology.
Through these displays, DRDO aims to highlight efforts to strengthen indigenous capabilities in defense research and enhance self-reliance in critical sectors. The exhibition also seeks to promote collaboration among industries, educational institutions, startups, and research organizations, while familiarizing the public with the country’s scientific and technological achievements.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director General of Electronics and Communication Systems at DRDO, emphasized the critical role of semiconductors and next-generation chips in economic competitiveness, digital sovereignty, and national security. He stated that India must develop a framework to meet the needs of telecommunications, automotive systems, industrial automation, AI, and defense platforms.
