Purnia, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Police in Purnia, Bihar, were shocked to discover that a reported kidnapping was actually a hoax. The incident unfolded in the Amour police station area, where authorities had been alerted about a young man allegedly abducted for a ransom of one lakh rupees.
The situation escalated when Abdul Karim reported that his 26-year-old son, Saba Zafar, was missing. Following this, the police launched an extensive search operation, fearing for the young man’s safety. A special police team, led by Baisi SDPO Jitendra Pandey, was formed to investigate the case.
Officers reviewed CCTV footage from toll plazas and railway stations. With assistance from the District Investigation Unit (DIU), they worked tirelessly throughout the night. Eventually, Zafar was located unharmed, but the truth behind his disappearance was startling.
Investigators learned that Zafar had not been kidnapped at all. Instead, he concocted the story to secure money from his family due to financial difficulties. The very person the police had been racing to rescue was now facing accusations of orchestrating the entire ruse.
Authorities have filed a case under Amour police station number 457/26, initiating legal proceedings against Zafar for his role in the kidnapping plot. The police also urged the public to refrain from spreading false information that wastes resources and hinders responses to genuine emergencies.
SDPO Jitendra Pandey emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating that the police acted swiftly upon receiving the report of Zafar’s kidnapping. Following their investigation, they successfully located him in Jalalgarh, where he admitted to fabricating the story due to financial pressures.
