According to the department, 3,32,626 litres of wash were destroyed on the spot across the state during the month. Officials said this step helped break the supply chain of illegal liquor even before production, reducing the risk of spurious and poisonous alcohol.

The statewide campaign was carried out under the directions of Excise Commissioner Shivprasad Nakate against the manufacture, storage, transport and sale of illegal liquor.

During the drive, large quantities of liquor and other intoxicants were seized. The department confiscated 11,836 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 5,820 bottles of country liquor, 7,677 bottles of illicit liquor and 1,676 bottles of beer. In addition, 3 kilograms of cannabis and 7 litres of spirit were also seized. Officials said the seized material was being illegally stored and transported.

Special monitoring was also carried out on the transportation of illegal liquor. A total of 28 vehicles used in smuggling were seized, including 22 two-wheelers, three light four-wheelers and three heavy four-wheelers. The department said action against such vehicles has weakened the illegal liquor network.

Additional Excise Commissioner (Administration) O.P. Jain said strict action will continue under the special preventive campaign. He said the department’s focus remains on every level of illegal liquor trade to effectively curb activities that affect law and order in the state.
