Washington, 18 August (Kiran News): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with President Donald J. Trump at the White House today, joined by leaders of the European Union. This meeting comes just days after Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin recently proposed a peace plan that would require Ukraine to surrender a significant portion of its territory.

According to The New York Times, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will accompany Zelensky to demonstrate solidarity. Putin and Trump met in Alaska on Friday, where Russia proposed that Ukraine relinquish the Donbas region. Ukraine is unlikely to accept this proposal.

Meanwhile, US President’s envoy Steve Witkoff said on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir V. Putin has shown some willingness to make concessions in Alaska. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that both Russia and Ukraine would have to make concessions for peace to be possible in the near future. European leaders stated on Sunday that they would join Ukrainian President Zelensky in meeting President Trump at the White House on Monday to form a united front against Russia.
