Escalating Crisis in West Asia: Iran Faces Significant Military Losses

New Delhi, March 18: The crisis in West Asia intensifies as military conflicts rage on. On February 28, a joint US-Israel operation targeted Iran, resulting in the elimination of several high-ranking leaders and officials. This assault has not ceased and continues to unfold. These leaders were pivotal in the administration, and the nation looked to them with hope in challenging times.

On the first day of the surprise airstrike, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, along with many family members and senior officials. The full extent of the casualties has become clearer with each passing day.

On March 1, state television reported the death of the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Army and Defense Minister Syed Abdul Rahim Mousavi, who was killed in an airstrike targeting a meeting of the Defense Council.

The following day, the Iranian judiciary confirmed that General Mohammad Pakpour, head of the powerful Revolutionary Guards, was among those killed in the attacks.

The death of Mohammad Shirazi was another significant blow to Iran. He served as the head of the Supreme Leader’s military bureau from 1989 until his death, acting as a crucial link between Iran’s top military commanders and the Supreme Leader. He was also killed in the airstrike on February 28.

Saleh Asadi, a military intelligence officer, oversaw intelligence operations related to national emergencies and defense planning at the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which is part of the Iranian armed forces’ emergency command structure.

Iran will not soon forget the loss of another top leader, Ali Larijani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and a key strategist during wartime. He, along with Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani, was killed in precise attacks on Tehran on March 17.
