Israeli Defense Minister Claims Iranian Intelligence Chief Khatib Killed in Airstrike

Tel Aviv, March 18: The Israeli Defense Minister has claimed that another high-ranking Iranian leader has been killed in an airstrike. According to him, Iranian Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib was killed in an attack on Tuesday night. The Israeli Defense Ministry’s office released a statement regarding Katz’s assertion. However, Iran has yet to confirm this information.

Katz stated that a “big surprise” is expected on Wednesday. Media outlet “The Times of Israel” reported that Khatib was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran; he also mentioned that significant developments are anticipated today.

During a security review meeting, Katz said, “Today, we expect major surprises on all fronts, which will intensify our fight against Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.” He added, “The intensity of attacks in Iran is increasing. Iranian Intelligence Minister Khatib was also eliminated last night.”

Katz mentioned that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have granted the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) the authority to target any senior Iranian official without needing further approval.

Earlier, Israeli media reported, citing sources, that Khatib had been killed. According to reports, recent airstrikes targeted Khatib specifically. It was also noted that the outcomes of this operation are still being assessed, and it remains unclear what damage was inflicted or whether the mission was successful.

Just a day prior, Israel targeted Iranian security official Ali Larijani and Basij commander Gholamreza Soltani, resulting in the deaths of both officials.
