Equipment Theft Disrupts CCTV Surveillance During IPL Matches in Lucknow

Lucknow, May 6: Equipment linked to CCTV cameras installed under the Safe City project in the Gomti Nagar Extension area has been stolen. Approximately 40 cameras along Shaheed Path are currently non-operational, impacting traffic monitoring and security measures. The stolen equipment is valued at around ₹1.25 lakh.

Vinod Yadav, an employee of the company responsible for the CCTV cameras, reported the theft at the Gomti Nagar Extension police station. He stated that poles and cameras were installed on Shaheed Path under Lucknow Smart City Limited. On the night of April 25, at approximately 10:49 PM, unknown thieves removed switches, batteries, and UPS units from the poles.

The report indicates that essential equipment for the CCTV cameras, including switches, batteries, and UPS, worth ₹1.25 lakh, was stolen by an unidentified individual. As a result, the cameras are currently inactive, hindering their use for monitoring traffic, controlling traffic during IPL matches, ensuring women’s safety, and preventing crime. The police are currently investigating the matter.

During the 2026 Indian Premier League, four matches have already been played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The season kicked off on April 1, where Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets. On April 12, Lucknow Super Giants faced a seven-wicket loss against Gujarat Titans. Rajasthan Royals secured a victory against the host team by 40 runs on April 22. The match on April 26 ended in a tie, with KKR defeating LSG in the Super Over.

On May 7, Lucknow Super Giants will face Royal Challengers Bangalore, followed by a match against Chennai Super Kings on May 15. Lucknow Super Giants will also compete against Punjab Kings at the Ekana Stadium on May 23.
