Rajouri, February 27: The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has taken a significant step in strengthening the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. A new batch of the Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) training has commenced at the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) Rajouri, catering to 35 educated unemployed youths. This training aims to prepare them for self-employment and to establish small-scale industries.
PMEGP is a central scheme managed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), which creates employment by establishing micro-enterprises in both rural and urban areas. In collaboration with the District Industries Centre (DIC) Rajouri and the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), this program provides candidates with practical knowledge in business management, project report preparation, financial planning, marketing strategies, and assistance in obtaining bank subsidies.
Sunil Sharma, Director of RSETI Rajouri, addressed the candidates at the training’s commencement, emphasizing that commitment, punctuality, innovation, and self-confidence are essential for success in entrepreneurship. He advised the youths to view this training as a significant step towards long-term financial independence and community development.
In an interview, he expressed gratitude to the youths for participating in the training. He noted that unemployed youngsters in the district are increasingly opting for self-employment instead of job hunting, and in the future, they will create jobs for others. This 10-day Enterprise Development Program teaches basic business skills. PMEGP is an established and successful scheme that has brought about significant change across the country. Under this scheme, loans of up to 2 million in the service sector and 5 million in manufacturing are provided, with a maximum subsidy of 35%.
A female candidate, Aarti Sharma, shared, “I have taken a loan from KVIC and have come to Rajouri for training. This training will provide me with comprehensive knowledge about running a business. I am thankful for the 35% subsidy from the government.”
Another candidate, Mukhtar Ahmed, stated, “The training under PMEGP is very beneficial for me. I have applied for a loan for my business. I am grateful for this government assistance.”
Rakesh Raina, who already runs a small business, mentioned, “I want to set up a printing press. When I learned about the scheme, I contacted the government. We received approval for a loan of 1 million and were sent for training. Here, we are being taught how to run a business. Unemployed youths should take advantage of government schemes. Thank you to the Government of India.”
Candidates under PMEGP receive subsidies of up to 35% on loans, empowering them towards self-reliance. This scheme not only provides economic independence at the individual level but also strengthens the local economy by creating jobs. Initiatives like this in border districts such as Rajouri are inspiring youth and contributing to the realization of the Atmanirbhar Bharat dream.
