New Delhi, July 2: The second semifinal of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to take place on Thursday at the Kennington Oval in London, featuring South Africa against England. The host team has historically excelled in this format against South Africa.
To date, England and South Africa have clashed in 28 T20 internationals, with England winning 23 of those matches. South Africa has managed to secure victory in only 5 encounters, showcasing England’s dominance in this format.
However, South Africa defeated England in the semifinals of the 2023 T20 World Cup. Additionally, during the 2025 ODI World Cup semifinals, England also fell short against South Africa. The Proteas aim to replicate their past successes in this upcoming match.
England has displayed exceptional cricket throughout this World Cup, winning all five group stage matches to secure their place in the semifinals. Danny Wyatt has been a standout performer with the bat, amassing 282 runs at an impressive average of 94 and a strike rate of 153. In bowling, Sophie Ecclestone has proven to be a challenging puzzle for opposing batters.
On the other hand, South Africa has navigated through the ‘Group of Death’ to reach the semifinals. Marizanne Kapp has been a key player for the team, while Tazmin Brits has scored 174 runs, including a century, making her the leading run-scorer for South Africa in the tournament.
Kapp has also taken the most wickets for her team, claiming 7 dismissals. Shabnim Ismail has made her mark with the new ball. However, captain Laura Wolvaardt has struggled with the bat, scoring only 117 runs in 5 innings. The team will be looking for a strong performance from her in the semifinals.
