Mumbai, June 7: The fantasy series “Game of Thrones” continues to captivate audiences, with Daenerys Targaryen, portrayed by British actress Emilia Clarke, being one of its most iconic characters. However, the fate of Daenerys in the final season shocked not only viewers but also Clarke herself. Recently, the actress opened up about her feelings regarding her character’s demise, revealing that she was extremely angry when she learned about it.
In a conversation, Clarke expressed her dissatisfaction with how Daenerys’ story concluded. The character, known as the “Mother of Dragons,” gained immense popularity worldwide. Clarke played this role from 2011 to 2019, which significantly boosted her international recognition.
The decision to kill off Daenerys in the series’ final episode sparked extensive debate. According to the storyline, Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, murders Daenerys to save the realm.
Clarke stated, “This twist shook me to my core. Daenerys’ last words were for Jon Snow. They were discussing how to make the world a better place, but in the next moment, Jon kills her.”
The actress voiced her frustration over the entire sequence of events. She remarked, “I found it extremely strange. Daenerys did everything for Jon Snow, even destroying cities for him, yet he was the one who killed her. At that time, I was very upset with this decision. Accepting this ending for my character was not easy.”
Clarke recounted her experience reading the final season’s script. “I had just returned from vacation when I received the script. As soon as I turned on my phone, I sat down to read it. After finishing the story, I was so shocked that I didn’t know what to do next. I went outside and wandered alone for several hours, forgetting my keys, phone, and other essentials because I was entirely focused on the story.”
She added, “Actors often feel emotional when a project ends, but this time was different. For me, it was not just a show; it was the most significant chapter of my life and career. This series gave me recognition worldwide.”
Clarke also mentioned that the show’s conclusion coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Both events impacted my mental and emotional life. It took me years to understand how significant this series was in my life. Even today, I can’t fully grasp how special and unique this experience was.”
