Mumbai, July 30: In today’s digital age, while technology has become more accessible, it has also introduced new threats, especially for women. The misuse of social media and AI has emerged as a significant issue, leading to incidents of blackmail through deepfakes and fake videos. A new web series titled ‘Service Girl’ aims to shed light on this serious problem.
In this series, renowned actress Khushi Dubey plays the lead role. In a recent interview, she emphasized that ‘Service Girl’ is not merely for entertainment; it seeks to reflect societal issues.
Khushi first addressed the severity of AI-related cyber crimes. She stated, “This problem has escalated significantly, with young girls being the primary victims. Our web series aims to raise awareness about this danger.”
She added, “Nowadays, creating fake images and videos using AI is alarmingly easy. We often read in the news about a girl’s fake bold photo going viral, leading to broken marriages, lost jobs, or societal ostracism. Tragically, some girls have even taken their own lives due to this trauma. This isn’t just a news story; it’s a harsh reality. ‘Service Girl’ attempts to portray this truth while also showing that with courage, one can emerge from darkness. My character embodies that spirit.”
Khushi plays a character named Divya, whose story resonates with millions of Indian girls.
Discussing her role, Khushi shared, “I portray Divya, a simple and straightforward girl who marries young and is content in her household. However, her life takes a drastic turn when someone uses AI technology to create fake and explicit images and videos of her. These videos go viral. The troubling part is that while they are not real, viewers believe they are. Divya repeatedly insists, ‘That’s not me,’ but no one listens. Society misjudges her, relatives question her, and her dignity is shattered.”
Khushi explained, “Portraying this character was challenging. I had to conduct research and observe real-life scenarios closely. Coming from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, I have seen many women like Divya. When such incidents occur, they often feel broken but remain silent. I aimed to make Divya feel authentic on screen, mirroring the mannerisms and reactions of women from Prayagraj.”
She further stated, “When I received the script for ‘Service Girl,’ I immediately agreed. The story addresses a serious and sensitive issue. In today’s world, every household has a phone and internet access, yet many are unaware of the dangers of misuse. Divya’s character is incredibly challenging. Initially, she is an innocent bride, then faces a traumatic event, becomes shattered, and ultimately rises to fight back. Performing this entire arc was a learning experience for me. I hope viewers connect with Divya and understand the dangers of AI misuse.”
Alongside Khushi, Malbika Banerjee and Nishad Vaidya play significant roles in ‘Service Girl,’ which is available on Hungama OTT.
