Embracing Humanity and Sacrifice on Bakrid: Shadab Shams Message

Dehradun, May 28: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid), Shadab Shams, Chairman of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, extended his greetings to the citizens and emphasized the true meaning of sacrifice. He stated that this festival goes beyond the mere act of animal sacrifice; it should foster feelings of humanity, sacrifice, and patriotism.

In a conversation, Shams urged everyone to celebrate Eid with simplicity and to maintain cleanliness. He explained that the term ‘Azha’ in Eid-ul-Azha signifies sacrifice. “Sacrifice is everything we can do for our loved ones,” he said.

He further elaborated, “We should be willing to sacrifice our cherished possessions. If I have money and my friend is in need, I should be ready to part with my money. If our country is under attack and Mother India needs the blood of me and my children, the spirit of sacrifice that Eid-ul-Azha teaches us is to be ready to give ourselves for our nation.”

Shams stressed that if we can instill this spirit of sacrifice within ourselves, India will stand strong. He remarked, “Sacrifice should not be limited to just cutting meat; we should be prepared to make all kinds of sacrifices for our loved ones. We must resolve to give up our preferences.”

Mufti Sameer Khan, celebrating Bakrid in Chandigarh, recalled the story of Hazrat Ibrahim’s sacrifice, stating, “When Allah commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice his dearest possession, every father considers his child to be his most cherished. The message of this festival is that today we must sacrifice not only animals but also our desires and whims.”

He advised that sacrifices should be made in a manner that does not cause discomfort to others. “The Quran clearly instructs that sacrifices should be performed peacefully. Since people of all religions live in India, we must be mindful of everyone’s sentiments. Sacrifices should be made in places where their sounds do not disturb others.”
